Printer Models

Derring Hall:
  • Mailroom 1: KONICA MINOLTA bizhub 450i
  • Mailroom 2: KONICA MINOLTA bizhub 958

To receive printer IP information, please contact Biology IT office at biohelp@vt.edu.

To print to the photocopiers:

  1. Download postscript or PCL printer driver specific to your computer from the website:  http://onyxweb.mykonicaminolta.com/OneStopProductSupport/

Please make sure that you are either connected to eduroam or using the Virginia Tech VPN before installing the drivers – the printers will not communicate with outside networks, including the VT Open Wifi.

For Macs:

  1. Run the installer that you downloaded in step 1.
  2. Go to the System Preferences and scroll down to “Printers & Scanners”
  3. At the bottom of the printer list on the, click “Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax
  4. Click “IP” and fill out the following information:
    1. Address: Enter in the copier IP address (see above)
    2. Protocol: Line Printer Daemon
    3. AQueue: leave blank
    4. Name: Anything you want
    5. Location: Anything you want
    6. Use: Click the drop-down menu and select “Select Software…” Then find and select the KONICA MINOLTA driver specific to the printer model you’re trying to install (458 for Mailroom 1 or 958 for Mailroom 2)
  5. Click “Add” once the correct driver is selected
    1. 7a. For the Mailroom 1 printer, on the next window, select “PC-416” as the paper source unit and “FS-539” for the finisher.
    2. 7b. For the Mailroom 2 printer, on the next window, select “LU-303” as the paper source unit, “FS-537” as the finisher, and “PK-523 (2/3-Hole)” as the punch unit.
  6. Click “OK” and the printer should now be added.
  7. Open Word and go into the print menu.
    1. Close the tab for “Copies & Pages”, and open the tab for “Printer Options”
    2. Click on “output method” and then account track.
    3. Put your 4 digit lab copy code into the password box, and then click save settings, then okay.
    4. Under presets, make a new one called “Account Track” by saving current settings as preset. And only for that printer.
    5. Click “Print” and you are finished.

For Windows:

  1. Run the executable you downloaded in step 1. It will unzip the drivers and create a new folder with the same name; open the folder and run the driver installer there.
  2. Agree to the user agreement, then select “Install (Manual Setting)”.
  3. Click “Add to list” to add a printer.
  4. Under Print Queue Name, rename the printer to “Mailroom 1”.
  5. Click “Port Settings”, then “Port Name”. Under Port Name, add the IP Address listed above for Mailroom 1, then click “OK”.
  6. Under the Model dropdown, select Mailroom 1’s printer model listed above.
    1. It can be challenging to find the right printer driver since the list is unsorted. While the dropdown is open, you can type “KONICA MINOLTA” followed by the printer model to jump immediately to it.
  7. Repeat steps 3 – 6 for Mailroom 2.
  8. Click “Next”, then click “Install”. Wait for it to finish installing, then click “OK”.
  9. Open Windows Settings, then go to Bluetooth & devices -> Printers & scanners.
  10. Select Mailroom 1, then click “Printing preferences”.
  11. Click “Authentication/Account Track…”, then under Password, type in your copy code. Click “Verify” to check if the copy code is valid.
  12. Click “OK” to close the Authentication/Account Track window, then click “Apply” and “OK” to save the copy code and close the Printing preferences window.
  13. Repeat steps 10 – 12 for Mailroom 2.
